Gustavo:

You neglected to mention your proclivity for the bawdy comment, and I didn't get any fashion advice!

Also, are you familiar with

I have a friend who plans her vacations using this site.

gentlepeople,

sorry, i don't get a chance to join on all the fun on the Bookshare.org Volunteer list as often as Marissa and Peter do.

so belatedly: here's an oblique description of myself:

mid-30s sighted guy.

i'm one-sixty-third Hungarian gypsy, but predominantly of Spanish stock filtered through northern Mexican sensibilities. i typically sport a goatee that Marissa describes as the embodiment of pure evil, am under 6 feet tall, and eat and drink too well.

one of my biggest contributions to making the world a better place is giving sensible and stylish fashion advice to Peter. Marissa ignores my pleas for change. it makes sense to me that Guido dresses dapperly. Pratik should seek professional help. Noel does just fine.

my happiest moment of 2004 was when two men from the Icelandic rescue agency drove up to me in the middle of the night while i was in a raincoat, my undies, and hiking shoes that belonged to who knows whom.

the place i've been to that i could never do justice in describing to anyone is Prince William Sound in Alaska. i don't have enough words. i don't have enough senses. i would go there again and again.

if it were all up to me, i'd move to Prague in a heartbeat.

when i visit new places, i like to check out the cemeteries; i've learned a lot by strolling through and paying attention to the architecture and information on the crypts, grave markers and headstones. the cemetery in the old fort in San Juan, Puerto Rico is breathtakingly situated. the cemetery in Prague was a delight. the Sudfriedhof, a cemetery for victims of the Black Plague in Munich, was an enjoyable place for a walk on a wintery day, given that locals incorporated it into their lives just like a park. then there's Dachau. Père LaChaise in Paris is immense and beautiful on a spring day, especially if you bring some friends and a couple bottles of champagne.

my favorite novel written by an American is A Confederacy of Dunces, http://www.bookshare.org/web/SingleTitle.html?submittitleid=8818.

my favorite author is the Uruguayan, Eduardo Galeano. we don't have any of his books on Bookshare.org. yet. Salman Rushdie, http://www.bookshare.org/web/BooksByAuthor.html?author_id=8356, Graham Greene, http://www.bookshare.org/web/BooksByAuthor.html?author_id=1919, and Louis de Bernieres, http://www.bookshare.org/web/BooksByAuthor.html?author_id=11291, follow close behind.

at work, where i do what they pay me to do, i use a PC. at home i use a Mac.

two holidays that i observe every year are All-Souls-Day and New Year's Eve. all others are optional.

i can speak enough Italian, German and Portuguese to get somebody to slap me or give me a phone number. but i'm happy that my French is good enough to please no-nonsense grandmothers. i grew up speaking English and Spanish interchangeably.

my comfort food is ox-tail soup. i make it myself.

i refuse to capitalize the personal pronoun "i", because i do not consider myself a proper noun. consequently, i don't capitalize my name.
