[bksvol-discuss] Re: planning to scan for all us music fans out there, especially Rush fans

Carrie,

I agree with Julie. These books would be a real asset to the collection. When I first joined Bookshare I looked for books on opera with no success. I enjoy classical music and would enjoy having books so that I can learn more. Also, they may spark interest in others and be of use to students. Diversifying the bookshare collection is a good thing!

I'm definitely not interested in this sort of thing, but I think they would
be an asset to the collection for those who are. Take care.

Speaking of music, a classical pianist gave us a load of books several years
ago, and in his collection are maybe 20-30 books on classical music and
composers. Does anyone want me to process them and submit them to the
download list? I didn't think there were many members who were classical
music fans so I haven't touched them yet. The bars of music will certainly
be unreadable, but the text should be okay. What do you think?

That one about why we like certain songs as opposed to others looks

it. I'm majoring in music so it looks like an interesting read.

Hi, fellow booksharians. For those of us who are fans of the rock group
Rush, i've just purchased drummer Neil peart's latest book, Roadshow:
Landscape with drums, that he wrote while on their 30th anniversary tour.
This is an account of him behind his drumkit, and on his motorcycle.

next, I have something for those of us who might be curious about why our
brains react to music as they do, why we like and don't like certain
songs, etc, from a scientific point of view. It's called This is your
brain on music, the science of a human obsession. it's by Daniel J.
levitin, who was a professional musician, record producer and record
industry executive in the 80's and 90's, and is now a neuro-scientist and
university professor studying the effects of music on the human brain.
Both of these should be good greads for those who might be interested in
this sort of stuff. I just got them, and will have them hopefully scanned
and submitted for validation early this next week, weather permitting.
Take care all.
