Then I am wrong, Carrie? Even though it's the preface only that's copyrighted 
2007 and not the book content?

Please use the most recent year. In both cases, that would be 2007.

When you go to submit a book you can only have a 4-digit number in the 
copyright year field.

Both books I'm ready to submit have the following for copyright year on the 
copyright info page of the books:

book 1:

Copyright © 2004, 2005 by Christopher Crowley and Henry S. Lodge
Preface © 2007 by Christopher Crowley and Henry S. Lodge


book 2:

Copyright © 2004, 2005 by Christopher Crowley and Henry S. Lodge
Preface © 2007 by Christopher Crowley and Henry S. Lodge

What would you suggest I use?

The books are
Younger Next Year
and
Younger Next Year for Women

There really is some good portion of the text of the one contained again in the 
next "women" edition.
So I guess that must be why they are identical in their respective copyrights.
