Hi, Alisa! Thanks again for your time this afternoon! Glad you un-spammed me. LOL I truly appreciate your listening and feedback on all the subjects we discussed from literacy, to skills and rewards to background. What a small world that we both have ties to Omaha! I did want to add that some of our most productive volunteers, like Jamie Yates, have no aspirations of being (if they knew it existed) a trusted volunteer since they do not want to be responsible for the totality of mastering a finished book. For example, Jamie is not interested in inserting DAISY navigation or finer minutiae like the ellipsis controversy. She is a great scanner and does some really tough books and completes series and has access to amazing piles of books through the Michigan library loan system, and loves her work, but doesn't want to read every book she does. And still, she deserves reward and assistance for all she has done besides us keeping her in scanners and OCR updates. ;-) And then there are people like Susan who cannot scan because of arthritis, but could deserve rewards for painstaking work. She and Larry may have to budget, but can afford their technology since the both worked for years, so you would need to decide if rewards were merit based or needs and merit based. I personally would love to work comprehensively to get Anastasia into a better loaned tech setup and mentor her to a better standard since she works on so many books instead of knowing every book needs paragraphing. I also desperately want Em Rose (Rosenfeld) to get an OpticBook scanner since she does a great job and has access to the vast Virginia library system. Other people to keep on the watch list are Vivian Flores, Nicole B (Bethesda Lily), and Sister Dolores Dean, all for various reasons. A side project, (maybe for an intern?) could be searching for unused Optacons that could be repurposed for volunteers previously trained (since there is no new training), wanting to be able to do a more thorough job, especially for people willing to tackle tough books like cook books. And last, but not least, Nichole's link is below my name. We have been horrible about updating, so the link to the September story is still in the last update. If you want more on your family, Bookshare Blog did a piece on our family and one or two on Nichole as well that you can easily pull up in the archives, although i will gladly send links if you prefer. Sorry for rambling and again, than you very much for caring! Bookshare is a wonderful resource we are completely dedicated to growing in volume and quality.
