Hi Chanelle!
Yes, you are understanding British quotes and apostrophes correctly.
You don't need to worry about centering the title on the title page.
Bookshare's tools remove extra tabs and spaces anyway, so I don't center
things.
I'm glad you're having fun!
One thing about the books that you're validating. When you download
a book to validate it, you are downloading that book for a week. If you
don't renew your books, they return to the step 1, or download page. The
next validator will not have access to any work you've done. So, if you can
renew your books while you're holidaying, it would be good. Otherwise, you
run the risk that someone else will download, validate, and reupload your
book while you're gone, thus making all work you've done obsolete. That was
the roundabout way of reminding you to renew the books on your step 2 page
each week so that your work will be preserved and someone else won't take
the book and get credit for validating a book you've done a lot of work
fixing.

Thank you for your warm welcome to the list and for the helpful
suggestions. I love to read, so I might as well do something useful
and contribute while I am at it.
The Jane Austen book I am reading was published in England. As with
other English books, some words are spelled differently. If I
understand correctly, apostrophes denote the outer quotation marks and
double quotation marks denote inner quotes?
In regard to formatting, does the title need to be centered on the
title page and is there other formatting that scanners miss or
interpret incorrectly which need to be fixed?
Describing how the pages should be laid out was very helpful.
I am looking forward to volunteering for Bookshare. It is great that
getting more newly released books and literature on a variety of
subjects is possible through the aid of Bookshare staff and
volunteers. My validated books will be submitted in a few weeks when I
return from vacation.
