Hi Roger and all,

I'm so sorry about the confusion! Yes, you're completely right that this is the
list of publishers we DO work with. I was thinking "safe" meant "safe to say
that we work with them," which is not how "safe" was used before, I now realize.

The list of "safe" and "unsafe" publishers still exists, I think, but it's out
of date and since the list is so confusing, I don't really recommend using it.
I'm working on a master list of publishers and imprints that we do work with,
but it's a work in progress as there are many and I have many other projects. I
agree that having a list of all the imprints is especially important, but it's
also especially time consuming to track down.

Again, sorry for the misunderstanding: the link I posted to the website is the
list of publishers that we currently DO work with. Thanks for catching that,
Roger!

Best,

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: Publisher list

It has been quite some time since I have looked at the safe publishers list,
but either this is not it or it has changed considerably. This link seems to
lead to a list of publishers which do contribute books to bookshare, that is,
unsafe publishers, and there are no imprints included. What we used to have was
a list of publishers, both safe and unsafe, all on one list with each noted as
safe or unsafe. The safe ones were compiled by Bookshare volunteers. Various
imprints that the companies use were also included as safe or unsafe. Is that
list still around or has this one replaced it? If so I suppose that it is
somewhat sufficient because if the publisher is not on the list then it would
be safe. I use the word somewhat, though, because the imprints are not
included. If someone encounters an imprint and does not know that it is an
imprint of a parent company and the parent company is one of the unsafe
publishers then the point of the list for volunteers is negated.
