Hi Lori,

That's a great question. Bookshare ranks the books it processes
according to their difficulty as Level 1 through 5. We typically send
all level 4 and 5 books to outsourcers as these are the most labor
intensive texts to work on (such as reference books). Many student
requests are also typically sent to outsourcers in addition to a large
proportion of all the books that Bookshare purchases in-house. (The
books that we purchase are very loosely classified as books that enhance
reading experience - so they cover a wide range of subjects, genres and
tastes). Also outsourcers are responsible for addressing a large number
of the book quality issue reports - we send them a large proportion of
these titles for reprocessing where needed.

Hope that helps answer the question!

All good things,

Pavi

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Outsourcing Books

Hi, this question is really for Pavi, but I thought others would be
interested in her answer.

My question is: How are the books chosen that go to the subcontractors
or put another way what criteria are used to determine which books go to
the outsourcers?

I hope this question has not been asked before.

Thanks.

Lori Castner
