The book that finally made me want to partner with a guide dog, was

The Eyes that lead. by Michael Tucker I read that book in Junior High and
wanted a dog ever since. And now I have my golden.

The first book I completed in Braille was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's
Stone. I was so excited to read it, I read it in classes, smile. I am now
a full time Braille reader, so... Now, I have to read it, so this was the
book that helped me on that way.

And one book that really touched me in high school was of all things.

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley.

I was able to connect with the feelings of the Frankenstein Monster that he
wasn't angry and destructive just as his nature, but he was angry and
destructive because that is how society treated him. I wasn't popular in
high school and one of my English teachers gave me the book and told me to
take my time in reading it, and well... I could totally understand the
monsters feelings. In my case I was internalizing all the comments nasty
jabs and teasing, not lashing out, but the book gave me quite a bit of food
for thought.

I would have to say those are the three, I hated reading until I discovered
Braille and scanning. That has made quite a bit of difference.

Smile.

The vision must be followed by the venture. It is not enough to
stare up the steps - we must step up the stairs.

Out of curiousity, what book changed your life? How did your life change
from reading it?

For me, the book was "Toward a Psychology of Being" by Abraham Maslow which
I read when I was in my late 20s. Freud looked at a lot of people, said
everyone is to some degree sick, and wrote defining characteristics of sick
people. Maslow looked a lot of people, said everyone is to some degree
healthy, and wrote defining characteristics of healthy people. And I
thought, how wonderful! I want to be a healthy person, now I have a
roadmap. That book spoke to me like no other ever has.

What about everyone else in Bookshare land? Carrie
