Yes, I came to a halt because my beagle had stopped. And it wasn't his usual, I'm-about-to-sniff-something stop. He just stood there. And I wondered why. Then I tried to take a step forward and my knees bumped into the hood. Thinking back on it now, I do recall that I almost fell on the hood.
This wasn't the usual person parking half on the sidewalk and half on the street. Normally when the latter happens I just usher my dog down the driveway ramp and circle the vehicle. These days I don't even think about it anymore. In fact, something like that happened to me just a couple of days ago. I was walking down the street and someone had parked their vehicle vertically on the sidewalk. I was surprised, but just shrugged and kept on walking.
Hmm. I think I've hashed this subject enough. Thanks for listening to me everyone. I appreciate it.

Right--and illegal. You came to an abrupt stop--since your beagle isn't a guide dog, I gather you sense that something was in your way. It's fortunately that you didn't bump into it and get hurt. I don't blame you for being angry. Just thinking about it makes me upset, and I really need to share this experience with others. About a year ago I put my beagle on his leash, grabbed some poop bags and proceeded to exit my front gate. I didn't take my cane with me, as I've gotten into the habit of leaving it at home. I only go around the block, and know the area so well that it's not necessary. Anyway, I walked down the street and came to an abrupt stop. Putting out my hand, I felt in front of me and felt, to my utter astonishment, the hood of a car! At first I thought maybe my beagle, in the excitement of his walk, had gone vertical and I was facing the wrong way. But after trying to scoot around the car, but to no success, for I then came up against the side of my neighbor's truck, which is always parked on the side of the street. I was baffled. I had no idea what was going on, and since I couldn't go anywhere, I turned right around and went straight back home, much to the disappointment of my dog. When I got home, I asked my mother to call the neighbor, since this obstruction was mmore or less in front of his driveway. She made the call, and then informed me that the neighbor had been expecting a couple of people over to discuss some kind of business. And the fools had parked their compact car directly on the sidewalk. I mean, it was directly, full-on smack dab on the sidewalk! Everyone, I cannot even begin to describe the irritation and annoyance I felt that someone could have been so rude, so unmindful of others, that they would deliberately park their car on a public sidewalk! To this day it still makes me annoyed, and even more so because no one had the opportunity to tell those people what they did was dumb and not to mention illegal. Natalie B.
