Hi, Mary Anne, The Alva is supported if you're running System Access as a
screen reader or are a member of the System Access Mobile Network. Other
Braille Displays are made by HandyTech, Humanware, Freedom Scientific, etc.
I'm using a BrailleNote mPower which can act as a Braille display but can be
removed from the computer and be kind of like a mini-computer on its own,
the BrailleNote Apex is the latest model in the BrailleNote family from
Humanware. They also make the Brailliant. Another Braille notetaker is the
BrailleSens made by HIMS. The thing you want in a Braille display or
notetaker is that it will work regardless of the screen reader you're using.
I don't know if the Apex is like that, but if so, I would have gotten it if
it were available at the time I got what I now have. There is some kind of
interface that the new Braille displays have which is what you want. I wish
I knew more, but maybe you could get answers from fellow list members here
or check with product web sites. I hope you'll get all the information
you'll need. I agree with you because I prefer to use Braille when
proofreading, though in my case, I use both speech and Braille, so what I
miss in speech, I can read in Braille to double-check. Regards, Kim
Friedman.

Hi Tracy. A major reason why I want a brl display is for proofreading.
So thank you for your input. The Alva looks like a very well made display,
but then I have no other experience and don't know what's out there. M.A.
