Hi Cindy, Joel was convicted, but has since been released from prison.I have heard descriptions of what the woman looked like, but nothing truly specific. For example, she looked as if she'd run into a train. Or her face was bashed in. However, there was mention of her orbital bones being broken. That's some very serious damage, especially if I understand correctly that she rarely sought medical intervention for her injuries.
Not that anyone needs my opinion, but I think that the woman was not completely blameless. She obviously did nothing to help the child, but I do think that her father was not the only person to harm the child. No prooff of such, but I still think it due to a few things said in the book in regard to the anger of the woman and the competitive nature of her and the little girl's relationships.
Okay, enough misery. I didn't intend to run on. Sorry. I hope all of you are having a peaceful time in your homes.

I remember that case. It's hard to forget, not only the child but what the Nussbaum woman looked like. I can't remember the final result. Who was convicted of what and for how long?
