I'd first see if any other program had the same troubles. After that, I'd
check the drivers, K1000's scan source, and, Maybe, the cable.

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Need Help: Epson 3170 Scanner goes Off Line While
Scanning
Hi, all-- Expert help needed.
I'm posting this for a friend who's not on the list any more. If you reply here, I'll forward the replies to here, or you can write to her yourself--I've included her email.
Thanks.

I just set up an Epson 3170 scanner on my Windows Me computer. The problem I'm having is that after scanning a few pages of a book, the light bar goes down the bed like usual and then stops and doesn't return to the top/back of the scanner and I get the error in the Epson scan window that there is no response from the scanner and that if I'm using scuzzy , I should restart the computer. I have the scanner connected to USB. It doesn't matter whether I'm doing automatic scanning or pressing the F9 key for each scan--the problem still occurs. The only thing I know to do is to switch the scanner off and then back on again, which brings the light bar back to the top/back of the scanner and then the scanner resets/initializes, or whatever it's called. I also then have to save my work, close Kurzweil, reopen Kurzweil and reopen the file before continuing to scan it. This is very annoying when I'm trying to scan a book! Any ideas as to what's going on here? I am using static thresholding and 400 dpi with margins enabled at 3 inches for the front margin on a paperback book and three seconds between scans. I realize I could have posted this to the Kurzweil list, but I recently changed my E-mail address and haven't gotten back on that list yet. Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Louise
