The people who burned witches at the stake never for one moment thought of
their act as violence;
rather they thought of it as an act of divinely mandated righteousness.
The same can be said of most of the violence we humans have ever committed.

This is an interesting NY Times Magazine article about service
animals, including a blind woman who uses a miniature horse--and she doesn't
live on a farm--along with the advantages and disadvantages. There's also a
picture of her with Panda, her horse. The article is, unfortunately, 8 pages,
but it also discusses other birds and animals that help people with various
disabilities. Unfortunately, apparently "United States government is considering
a proposal that would force Edie and many others like her to stop using their
service animals. But that's precisely what's happening, because a growing
number of people believe the world of service animals has gotten out of
control: first it was guide dogs for the blind; now it's monkeys for
quadriplegia and agoraphobia, guide miniature horses, a goat for muscular
dystrophy, a parrot for psychosis and any number of animals for anxiety,
including cats, ferrets, pigs, at least one iguana and a duck." W e may have o
do something about that. Cindy Ro

It's no longer just guide dogs for blind people. Service animals
now include monkeys for quadriplegics, parrots for psychotics and at least one
assistance duck. Should the law recognize all of them?
