[bksvol-discuss] Justified re flush left formatting

I was waiting to see if anyone answered Jill before I
wrote, and you did, Jim. I'll just add that someone
posted some time ago that they preferred flush left
margins to justified format (the perfect square),
which most print books are, for the very reason that
Jill pointed out. Apparently it makes reading, whether
in Braille or Daisy or both I don't remember, more
annoying. Since that was posted, I've been
reformatting every book I validate so the margins are
flush left. Even then, depending on how long some
words are would come at the end of the line, there are
some longer spaces between words, but nothing like
when the format is justified. It does look lovely, but
if you can't see it, it doesn't matter.

OT: One of my many jobs in my life was as a
proofreader. One thing we couldn't allow was having
identical words or phrases be at the end of two
consecutive lines. Apparently it's confusing to the
eye, when the format is justified, which it usually is
in magazines, too, and the eye tends to skip to the
wrong next line.
