I wonder if I can be more useful to Bookshare by lending my skills as a recruiter of other volunteers? i am finding I have a time crunch for validating, and I think I can help find lots of new volunteers to do that task. What do you think? I do have one requirement. You have to promise to get bvack to people who contact Bookshare within two working days.. My moaning about volunteers on the discussion list was not about Bookshare but the endemic tendency of all volunteer programs to leave people hanging.. and then being all surprised when they go elsewhere. I made up the joke once "How many managers of volunteer resources does it take to change a light bulb?" Answer, "Just one, but it'll take a month and several phone calls." The fact that that joke ticks off so many volunteer resources managers says to me that the joke is too close to home. I won't give away my expertise if it will be squandered. But I also will help, if it is needed, put in place a procedure that ensures people who inquire hear back a lot faster than I did.
