*NEW YORK -- Rock `n' roll songwriter Carole King has a book deal.*

*The 69-year-old King has signed with Grand Central Publishing for a
memoir named after one of her most famous songs, "Natural Woman." The
publisher announced Monday that the book will come out in April 2012.*

*King wrote or co-wrote such hits as "Up on the Roof" and "You've Got a
Friend." Besides writing hits for the Drifters, the Shirelles and other
performers, King sang her own material on the classic "Tapestry" album.
That album has sold more than 10 million copies in the U.S. alone.*

*Other rock stars working on memoirs include The Who's Pete Townshend
and Gregg Allman of the Allman Brothers Band.*

"To me, music that breaks your heart is the music that stays with you
forever. It's one thing to be melancholy and one thing to be sophisticated,
but when you get the two of them together in a way people can relate to,
then I think you're on to something. You want the sophistication to lie in
the purity of the sound, the beauty of the arrangements, and the quality of
the performances."-Trumpeter Chris Botti
