Sandy and Valerie, I'm very puzzled by this problem with paragraph marks disappearing in the conversion from openbook format .ark to .rtf format. I have openbook 7.02 and checked under scanning settings; both "keep exact view" and "scan with page layout elements" are unchecked. When I scan, my scans always have a blank line between paragraphs, and after converted to .rtf, the file shows a paragraph mark at the end of the paragraph and a paragraph mark for the following blank line. This format is true whether I save the document using save as and choosing .rtf from the combo box or whether I launch the document in word. When I scan, I use omnipage as my recognition engine. Also, just in case you don't know, you should uncheck despeckle, white on black and language analyst. Unchecking these items causes a better scan. I hope that some of these observations might be helpful, but I'm not sure they will. Woohoo! Sandi did a fine job on her first scan, except for the software wreaking havoc on paragraphs, something we hope to figure out sooner than later. I will search out a couple more easy scans for her to try adjusting settings on, but I am tickled with her enthusiasm and patience in troubleshooting. The two books Sandi started with were books Nichole brought home from ALA, and Chance and the Butterfly is a well written youth story about a third grade boy in foster care and how we all need something to call our own, even if it is not really "ours". I am working on the paragraph issue for "Somebody's Girl", its sequel, and Nichole is excited to read both! Thanks for your patience and hard work, Sandi!
