Nothing strange about it. Look up isbn in an online encyclopedia. <grin>
You won't see them in books before 1974 or 1976.

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] About ISBN

Hi everybody. I will soon be submitting a book for validation. It was
copyright 1949 and does not have an ISBN number. Does anyone know if that
could be the case or should I look somewhere for an ISBN? It seems like I
always have these strange problems with books! Thanks for your help.
