Guys,
Till around some version of kernel 2.5, timer interrupts of 100Hz was
being used. But from 2.6 onwards the kernel will have a default
frequency of 1000hz. Please read the following article for more info

There is also a paper presented in SIGMETRICS that evaluates how
increase in interrupt frequency helps soft-real time applications...
