I set up the scope in the pond thicket, this morning, to get photos of the
Indigo Buntings, which are everywhere out there right now. I got some good
Bunting photos and then spotted a Yellow Warbler nearby, which posed for photos
and then a juvenile Song Sparrow and a Blue Grosbeak. I posted photos of each
to Flickr (links follow), all taken without moving the tripod and within about
15 minutes.
During that ~15 minutes, I also saw Northern Cardinals, Indigo Buntings, a
House Wren (a first here this year), Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, and an Orchard
Oriole, in the same flowering plum tree where I photographed the Yellow Warbler
and Song Sparrow. It's foliage has been completely "laced" by Japanese beetles
and is now nearly see through. I watched two Baltimore Orioles picking
Japanese beetles out of crepe myrtle blooms, this morning, which is the first
that I've ever seen any bird eat the disgusting things.
