I made a solo woods circle this morning that included viewing both Back Field
and Middle Pond. No unusual species seen, but as I was passing Middle Pond on
the return walk home, a pair of Canada Geese swam to tire Island and got out of
the water with me very close by. When I got to the yard, a single Purple Martin
was sitting atop one of the gourd perches. It allowed very close approach. One
can see the gleam in its eye.
