The male Western Tanager that was reported on KY Birder's FB group a week or so
ago is continuing on the east side of town. It was first noticed on the 18th of
December. The hosts, Rick and Jamella Sullivan, have been kind enough to offer
opportunities to view the bird, which is coming to a couple of feeders in the
back yard. Please adhere to the following protocol for visiting.
This afternoon, I suggested a window from 2-4 pm EST. The bird is coming about
every 45 minutes to an hour. The address is 4422 St. Regis Lane off Browns Lane
south of I-264. Park on the south side of St. Regis (the side their home is
on). Walk along the left side of the house to the back corner just far enough
to where you can view the two feeders in the back yard. Best to quietly stand
in the vicinity of the corner of the house so as not to spook the birds coming
and going to the feeders. The bird typically comes in to the maple tree above
the feeders before going down onto them. It then frequently flies to the
deciduous shrubs along the back of the yard. Please do not play any tapes to
attract the bird.
If you'd let me know by email or text (502/330-3998) that you are going to be
there, I can pass that along to the Sullivans. For tomorrow, I'd recommend
again visiting during a window of time say between 1000 and 300. And again, if
you'd text or email me I can make sure they know someone will be viewing.
For next week and beyond, just do the same so that I can let them know there
will be someone coming.
