I finally ventured into Webster Co. for some birding. Only my second birding
venture into Webster County. Previously I had logged the Scissor-tailed
Flycatcher in Webster Co. back in 2013.
I had driven to Lee K. Nelson WMA before, but always in summer and it looked
like a chigger and tick paradise so I never birded there.
But in winter (even though it didn’t feel like winter) I figured it would be
good time to visit.
It is a small WMA (60 acres). Located just outside Dixon, KY. A parking area is
at the top of a ridge beside a 1 lane road. From the parking area there is a
trail/abandoned road that runs down a ridge to a pond, outhouse, and what looks
like a small abandoned maintenance building. Most of the area is Oak forest
with some pines planted near the pond. I still don’t think I would visit the
area in the summer.
Maybe another visit in winter.
Only Highlight was my FOY Black Vultures.
