We stayed in Sandusky rather than Toledo. Birded late but always found
restaurants open. Eat lake perch and walleye while there. Yummm. Bring lunch
and water. Use the facilities before getting on the boardwalk. You can spend
most of a day getting from one end to the other when it is good!

Sunil, that is great advice on the food. There are a few small towns about 15
- 20 minutes from the Lake Erie area with a big emphasis on small. It’s a
good idea to get an airbnb, stock the fridge, and pack lunch in a freezer bag
with an ice pack.

Indira and I have been there twice so far and I am going there again in May.
For those wanting to go, a point to remember is that there aren't many
eating places near Magee Marsh...in fact there aren't any.......so plan
things well.
If not, you may spend too much time birding and be too late to get to a
restaurant in time.
Happy birding!!

Magee Marsh is amazing. You can be so close to the birds there.
Additionally, there are so many good natural areas when Magee Marsh gets
overwhelming or too crowded. The Lake Erie coast has a lot to offer.
Definitely worth the trip.

We went twice last year. Once in mid-May and once in September. Gonna make
the trek again in a few weeks. It’s such a cool place, especially Maumee
Bay. What a beautiful landscape.

I was born and raised in the Magee Marsh area and it is wonderful to see
so many from Kentucky take an interest in this birding paradise. It is
well worth the trek there. FOS male hummer on the Azalea bush yesterday.
Thanks.

Yup, Magee Marsh is amazing. We spent a couple of days up there pre-covid
and were wowed. We were later informed that we were there on a couple of
"off" days.
Hope to get back one of these years.

Thanks to John Pollpeter yesterday from the LBL Nature Ctr. Nice Warbler
numbers. Remember last year about this time bpb's one day trip down there
and 20 plus Warblers in one day.
Sorry here at Browder where we have the habitat but never observed Warbler
#s no where close to LBL. Of course fun to read Steve K's MACA, Mammoth
Cave, Warbler lists, and the Schochoh reports by Steve T., plus Charlie's
counts south of the Ohio River west of Henderson....not to mention other KY
locations.
Our best Warbler time has been two trips to Magee Marsh, east of Toledo,
Ohio, on the shores of Lake Erie...only a 7 hour drive from Browder up to
there. The observant birders see up to 31 plus warblers, many only 10-30 ft
away, but for that count one needs to observe from the first to last week
of May, with the well documented peaks being mid month. Some birders do
stay there all month!! There are the early, and the end of month arrivals
of warblers. Our last trip we had wonderful close views of a Kirkland
hanging around a bush on the beach off the main parking lot for two days.
That was a crowd pleaser.
