Our kudos too! The two speakers, Brian “Fox” Ellis (aka John James Audubon) and
Julie Zickefoose were fantastic. We had seen both before and that’s why we
signed up for this festival.

I know this isn’t KY birding-but it’s oh so close! I wanted to give a shout
out for those who planned the Wings of Winter birding festival at Paris
Landing State Park on Kentucky Lake in TN. KOS was one of the partners and KY
was well represented. If you are a waterfowl or bald eagle aficionado, or
otherwise enjoy getting together with other birders and enjoying wandering
through wildlife refuges and sanctuaries that would normally be closed off to
the public, I would recommend planning to attend the WOW festival which is
already in the planning stages for next year. The tours, programs, speakers
and company were all excellent! And we got VERY lucky with the weather
compared to last week! Below is my eBird report for just half of Saturday’s
tour. Other, more experienced birders reported 70 species. But as a beginning
border, I was thrilled to get 10 life birds in one morning!
Hap Chambers and Mary Yandell we’re just two KY birders I know of who were
instrumental in planning and carrying out this festival, and I’m sure there
were others. Thank you!!
I hope some of you will be able to attend next year.

Comments: WOW bird Festival. 40 degrees and cloudy . Some of water still
covered in ice. Park ranger guided us through wildlife sanctuary. More
waterfowl than I could count. They covered the water and the sky. Other
species observed that I was not able to ID. Coyote , otter.
