Of course if over time birders always warily retreat when seeing the Whooping Cranes they may get the impression that people are no threat to them at all. The WCEP might want to rethink that policy and encourage birders to scream and shout and wave their hands if the cranes come to close. This would guarantee that the birds will not become complacent around the other 99% of persons who are not privy to the WCEP guidelines. Just a thought. Frank Renfrow Bellevue, KY
