I appreciate everyones comments. Update: Kate Slankard and I have been
in communication, and actually the carcasses were picked up this
morning by KDFWR. Regarding the photos, I’ve changed the privacy
setting, those who couldn’t view them should be able to do so now.

Subject: [birdky] WARNING: Devastating & Heartbreaking Find

For approximately four years now, I have followed a nesting pair of
barn owls located on a friends farm at the edge of Warren County. They
have successfully raised a pair every year. This year they likewise
had a pair and all seemed well. I checked on them two weeks ago. They
favored me with this photo:

This afternoon I went to check on them, thinking the fledglings had
likely left. I went to their nesting sight and was horrified! There,
lying on the ground were 4 dead owls. It was the most heartbreaking
sight you could image. The juveniles were side by side, they died
together. Likewise, the adults were side by side. I suspect poisoning!
I posted to Flickr several photos I had taken of them over the years.
I’m at a loss for words.
