I stepped out the back door long before dawn this morning to see how much it
rained (2.7 inches). While outside, I heard a call note that didn’t match any
nocturnal birds I’m familiar with. It was a singular, falsetto toned sound,
repeated every 10 seconds or so. Once upon a time, I had a set of 33 rpm
records titled ‘A Field Guide to Bird Songs’. Being a few decades beyond
possessing a functioning turntable, I don’t think I’m going to ID the sound
with that resource. There are bird songs on line, but I suspect I would have
trouble selecting search terms that would locate this bird.
