North of Drakesboro, KY, off US 431, down in the Pond Creek copperas water
swamps. First time we have noticed GE this location.
Following up on BPB's Armadillos report. They have been headed east for
decades. In the past month observed one on I-65 middle of TN, and two in
Muhlenberg Co., KY....Sorry to say all road kill....we used to live in central
TX and they were all over the place. Been numerous in Arkansas for decades.
We still have a large numbers of female Hummers at our place, especially in the
early morning as soon as the Cypress Vine red trumpet flowers open, but not a
single male Hummer for past 3-4 weeks....I plan to start several large Cypress
Vine patches in the back wildlife fields next spring.
Question-why do the male Hummers head south first ?
Planted 1/3 acre of Hairy Vetch this week, but did not receive the rain needed
today for germination. In the past had some excellent stands of vetch in old
CRP fields, but when that program ended the frequent baling of hay reduced seed
production until no vetch left.....my mistake to let that happen sorry to say.
