Tennessee birder Ken Oeser came up this morning hoping to see a Barn Owl.
Technically he succeeded, if one can call seeing a fluffy owl’s butt a
successful sighting. I can’t seem to get the birds on this place to read the
fine print about striking a pose on page 3 of their residency agreement. Come
to think of it, I can’t get them to read anything.
Ken also walked to the back field with me. We saw some okay birds, but nothing
rare. I saw a Harris’s Sparrow back there on November 6. I have not seen it
again, despite carrying small seed packets back there each day since. Until I
see it again, there’s no way to know if it is wintering here, has moved on or
has become a meal of something else.
