Matt Stickel called this afternoon to say he had two TUNDRA SWANS and CACKLING GOOSE (more than one?) at Reformatory Lake in LaGrange, but he didn't have a chance to tell his news before I told him about the two TUNDRA SWANS that flew southeast over Mary and me about 10 this morning at Caperton Swamp in Louisville. I guess it's theoretically possible that Matt and we saw the same two swans. (Reformatory Lake is 15 or so miles northeast of Caperton.) We ruled out trumpeter swan due to the spot in front of the eye that our birds had. Mary and I also had 17 snow geese in an earlier flyover this morning, as well as a lone rusty blackbird. Above the Falls of the Ohio were 4-6 canvasbacks, 15 or more hooded mergansers, and about that many lesser scaup. No scoters seen. 100-200 ring-billed gulls below the Falls. Mary and I then went to Bernheim Forest in an unsuccessful search for golden eagles, but just after 5 at Lake Nevin we found 10 MUTE SWANS. I assume these are not domestic birds.
