Add to our list for northern Franklin County and southern Owen County red-eyed
vireo, house wren, Gray catbird, and about 20-30 chimney swifts! Also saw “our”
two resident kestrels, one with a fresh meal!
What would we do without nature? I never want to know!

I had my first slate-colored Junco of the season this morning! What a
surprise, as we have never recorded one so early here. Had nice looks at a
singing yellow-throated vireo; black-throated green and Tennessee warblers
were foraging in the yard. A magnolia along the driveway edge rounded out
the morning’s warblers. Young cedar waxwings with streaked breasts didn’t
have the full black masks of the adults they were with. It was nice to see
yellow-billed cuckoos and Swainson’s thrushes. Monarchs flew at tree level
and up where we usually see hawks moving through. A nice morning walk, for
sure.
