I'm going to be in Aiken, SC next week. Why, you might ask? My daughter
rides horses, and Aiken is a big winter training area. Anyway, Aiken is
right across the state line from Augusta, GA, and about 2.5hrs NW of
Charleston.
I'm hoping to have at least a couple days for birding. The target list is
pretty slim in the Aiken area, but really anywhere from Savannah to
Charleston on the coast is within reach for a day trip. Sparrows would be
my top targets for life birds (seaside, salt marsh, Nelson's, LeConte's),
but I'd love any recommendations for nice birding areas to explore in
general.
