Kathy Dennis from the Louisville Bird Rehab Center joined us this evening. The warmest day of the year, so far. The sunshine and warm wx paid off in spades as we had a count of 17 Short Ear Owls and about a dozen Harrier Hawks. Several other birds including a Shrike and several Meadowlarks were highlighted by the evening sun. We were hoping to see the new comet but it was cloudy in the west and our info said the comet would not be visible until this coming Tues or Wed. A few days ago we went out two evenings in a row and did not see any owls. We have concluded the owls prefer late sunny afternoons with no wind or rain. The Harriers are tougher and some are out flying no matter what the wx is.
