Nicole Ranalli and I participated in the Mississippi Valley Shorebird count this weekend and recorded twelve species of shorebirds. There wasn't much habitat available and numbers were relatively low. Highlights from the weekend are listed below. September 11 LONG-TAILED JAEGER viewed from Kentucky Dam. Appeared to be the same juvenile bird as previously reported. PLEGADIS IBIS...juvenile/1st basic at Willow Pond in Fulton County and later at Lake 9 among the wader roost. Although not showing strong diagnostic features, I feel the bird is probably a White-faced. Photos/video was obtained. Lake 9, Fulton County Great Egret 1000+ Cattle Egret 800-1000 Less than 100 each Little Blue Herons and Snowy Egrets Willet September 12 REDDISH EGRET...juvenile at Island 1 on the Mississippi River in Carlise County. First seen feeding along a pool between the island and the bank with other herons and egrets, then later spent much time resting along the outer edge of the bar just downstream from the island. Second Kentucky record photos/video obtained. Mississippi Kite 4 juvs at Laketon, Carlisle County Sanderling 3 at Laketon. dave __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
