After I posted our weekend list, last evening, I stumbled (it was as dark as
Moria out there) back out to the thicket and managed to get a recording of the
Screech Owl. I added it to the eBird list, for yesterday, and linked here.

We counted 58 species this weekend. Though not great, today’s weather was
more cooperative and we ended up with 51 species, just today.
We still had seven Warbler species, though our FOS Swamp Sparrows appeared on
Friday and White-throated, yesterday. Still no White-crowns, though!
We’ve had Siskins at the feeders, every day, since they first appeared on
Monday. We counted 10 today.
There were Tennessee Warblers and Ruby-crowned Kinglets everywhere, all
weekend. I found that, if I stood in the thicket and played House Wren
scold-calls or a Thrasher “churr” calls, the little guys came and examined
me, as though I was a circus side show. I got a video, this afternoon, of a
Tennessee and Ruby-crowned at literal arm’s length. What fun! Actually,
our big highlight came, late this afternoon, when Katie joined me in the
ticket to get a close-up look at the Kinglets. I had played my Wren
scold-call and we were watching the Tennessees, Magnolias, and Kinglets (who
were watching us) when a Screech Owl made its monotonic trill call from
beyond the pond depression. That’s our first Screech Owl record for 2020.
We had heard the Jays fussing at something out that way, earlier, and
wondered if they’d spotted the Owl.
I noticed this weekend that the autumn Bluebirds-and-groupies phenomenon is
in full swing. There was a group of 8-9 Bluebirds loafing around that were
accompanied by Chipping Sparrows, two Yellow-rumped and a Palm Warbler. At
one point there was a Pine Siskin and Bay-breasted Warbler in the entourage.
I found an unexpected Pewee in the pond thicket, around sunrise this morning.
I thought they were long gone.
