I was inspired by Frank Lyne’s 2019 eBird resolution and decided to do a better
job of recording our sightings here at our Schochoh home location. We kept
218 eBird checklists, through the year, and tallied 128 total species. The
Short-eared Owl in November was number 128. I thought we might make 130, but
that was…maybe a little greedy.
We counted 78 species in May, but October won with 81. We ended the year with
12 Sparrows, 17 Warblers, 7 Woodpeckers, 6 Flycatchers, 3 Owls, 3 Falcons, and
3 Vireos. I have the list in an Excel file, if anyone is interested.
I included a link to our January 1, 2020 eBird list, below. We counted 31
species, and it was a slow day (if we’re going to beat 2019 in 2020, we’ll need
to add 98 more). eBird thought the 30 Pipits was too many, even though I was
probably conservative.
The Harlan’s Hawk continues on it’s favorite powerline tower. My family gave
me a 1.6x scope extender for Christmas, so my long-distance views of it are
better than ever😊
Happy New Year to all!
