On 3/14, I found and photographed 4 Red-necked Grebes in Larue County at Salem Lake. Two of the grebes were toward the north end of the lake and 2 were near the south end of the lake (east of the house). The only other waterbirds there were 2 Canada Geese. At Freeman Lake in E-town, the 3 Red-necked Grebes at the south end of the lake were most likely the same as the 3 I'd seen and photographed there on 3/9. Also at the lake on 3/14 were a flock of 15 male Red-breasted Mergansers (13 ad and 2 imm), 4 Bufflehead (2 of each sex), 3 Horned Grebes (1 in breeding plumage), 3 female Ring-necked Ducks, and 8 Lesser Scaup. Yesterday at Salem Lake, the only waterbird was a Pied-billed Grebe. A flock of 7 Tree Swallows flew north over the lake.
