The day started out well. I went out first thing to change water in the
hummingbird feeder. Just as I was about to lift the feeder loose from the
shepherd’s hook, a male alit, checked me out for a moment, then went ahead and
got a drink, with one of my hands on the feeder and my face a foot away, far
exceeding the bounds of safe social distancing. I suppose hummingbirds can’t be
expected to be vey well informed.
On the farm circle, I flushed a couple of Bobwhites and saw a Lincoln’s
Sparrow. Couldn’t get the Lincoln’s Sparrow to strike a Sibley pose, but I felt
lucky to get anything at all. It was in the middle of a tangle and my camera is
very good at selecting the wrong depth of field to focus on in such a mess.
Thoughts welcome on whether the one image I captured is enough for making a
call.
Heard a Wood thrush in the woods and saw a Green Heron for the 3rd day
straight.
