I just wanted to post that two of us decided to hike the longer Gray's
Arch/Rough Canyon loop today (ca 5.8 miles) to look for Showy Orchis (an
orchid) in bloom and to count warblers for eBird. I was not surprised that
Swainson's was missing as this is not the prime time to see them...but we
hardly had any Worm-eating or Hooded Warblers...must be too early for them.
We did get at least 22 Black-and-White and 16 Black-throated Green and 10
Warbler species total. (Ebird list is posted.)
We did see and hear one Red-breasted Nuthatch and we are wondering if it could
be part of the supposedly nesting nuthatches in the Rock Bridge trail area?
I have a recording.
Great wildflowers are out and hope folks get down to the Gorge to do a hike and
listen for returning warblers. (Yes, the Showy Orchis are blooming!)
