Replying to Ceci’s post—
Carl Haaisen has several books for middle grade readers that have an
environmental theme.
Hoot is about burrowing owls.
Scat is about the Florida panther
Also there’s Squirm and Chomp. They are all told with humor and have a great
message.
There are also several good bird guides for young people. Peterson (by BTlll)
and National Geographic each have a good one.
Here’s a link for Audubon’s recommendations

Hey All,
I have been doing a lot of reading this past year. I have read some great
bird conservation books, a "call to arms" with useful suggestions on things
we can do at home. Check them out:
Bringing Nature Home, Dr. Douglas Tallamy talks about the importance of
native plant, caterpillars, and songbirds and what you can do to protect
them. His newest book is also great called Nature's Best Hope. It made me
rethink some of my practices in my backyard.
Narrow Edge: a tiny bird, and ancient crab, an epic journey is a book about
the red knot migration, its stopover in Cape May/ Delaware bay for horseshoe
crab eggs, and its migration to the Arctic. But it covers so much more about
shorebirds in general and their plight as well as their critical role in the
ecosystem.
Hope you all enjoy them as much as I did
