Thanks Brainard.
We are feeding a lot of cracked corn. At 0800 we had 20 Cardinals, half
male...then at 0900 we had 20 Bluejays...color, color, color...plus scattered
assortment of others, esp. the Red-bellied W.
On the road now to Rural King for more black oil sunflower and crk corn.
We cancelled our plans for tomorrow due to ice forecast...but, the birds will
have plenty of food in our backyard. They know the feeding times.

feeding birds because of the Salmonella threat, I might recommend you start
back up with the predicted weather we have coming in. I think the potential
impact on what few siskins are still around might be worth risking to help the
rest of your yard birds. At this point in the winter, natural food resources
are becoming more scarce and some of our resident yard birds are probably
somewhat dependent on our offerings. Upcoming weather is going to include two
bad aspects . . . a freezing rain accumulation (which can really make food hard
to get to) plus frigid temperatures.
