Scott Record emailed me this evening and noted that he could not find the Yellow-billed Loon today despite a pretty decent effort. One thing to keep in mind is that the bird has been SLOWLY progressing southward in it's feeding over the past few days. Most of yesterday it spent no farther north than the mouth of the bay to the Girl Scout Camp. I don't know if there is any access a bit farther south, but it might be worth a look if possible. As noted by several folks, afternoon light is the best to view the bird because of the orientation of the viewing areas (looking to east and southeast). On another note . . . regarding the Little Gull -- in the location that it has been spending a lot of time recently, from the easternmost pullout on the dam, you scan southeastward between the locks and the sailboat marina, some mile down the LBL side of the lake. If it's sunny, morning light makes this impossible and the later it gets in the afternoon, the better the light gets. Also, keep in mind that the bird is REALLY far away for such a small gull and you have to be scanning at at least 40 power to be getting much of a look for the black stripe along the lower back (wing coverts and primaries) when the bird is at rest or the black W in the upper wing pattern when in flight. Good luck, ya'll. bpb, Louisville ================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBERS============== The BIRDKY Mailing List requires you to sign your messages with first & last name, city, & state abbreviation. -------------------------------------------------- To post to this mailing list, send e-mail to: birdky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx -------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send e-mail to: birdky-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject line. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the Kentucky Ornithological Society web site at http://www.biology.eku.edu/kos.htm * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BIRDKY List Manager: Gary Ritchison, Richmond, KY E-mail: gary.ritchison@xxxxxxx
