May 20, 2005: Sauerheber Shorebird Unit: growing up in vegetation -- no shorebirds Slough along north side of KY 268 west of the WMA: many fewer birds; yesterday was why I call it "Semi" Slough ... 50 scattered Semi Plovers; 12 Semi Sands; a couple of Leasts and a couple of Spotteds. Slough along east side of Horseshoe Road, farther out west of the end of KY 136: I've had nice flocks of shorebirds out here in the past, but usually after floodwaters are receding. Yesterday there was one nice group on the one slough there including 70+ Semi Plovers, sev Killdeer; 2 Spotted Sps; 1 Gr Yellowlegs; 2 Les Yellowlegs; 2 gorgeous Ruddy Turnstones; 90+ Semi Sps; 10+ Least Sps; 54+ Dunlin (some that glowed red, white and black!); 4 Stilt Sps (2 in seemingly immaculate plumage); and 41+ S-b Dowitchers (including one of the dull eastern race). bpb, Louisville ================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBERS============== The BIRDKY Mailing List requires you to sign your messages with first & last name, city, & state abbreviation. -------------------------------------------------- To post to this mailing list, send e-mail to: birdky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx -------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send e-mail to: birdky-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject line. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the Kentucky Ornithological Society web site at http://www.biology.eku.edu/kos.htm * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BIRDKY List Manager: Gary Ritchison, Richmond, KY E-mail: gary.ritchison@xxxxxxx
