Judy Galitzine and I birded from inside the Interpretive Center after a class at the Falls around 11 AM today. Estimated 350 to 400 ducks in the outer basin, between fixed weir and Shippingport Island. Mostly divers in outer basin; scaup species, bufflehead, canvasbacks, redheads. The shallow pools in front of fixed weir had some dabblers; lots of mallards, gadwalls, a few black ducks, and one male northern pintail. Ashland Park; one male red-breasted merganser, buffleheads and a few ring-billed gulls. The Ohio River above the Interpretive Center is starting to freeze-up. The local adult peregrine falcon was perched on the railroad bridge. Did not see a single gull or duck near Big Four Bridge area.
