Brainard et al,
Concerning the food source- Ed Baise who lives in the large house at the
original spot of the Snowy Owl said that there are a ton of rodents and when he
hays or plows his fields the coyotes and hawks will follow behind his plow.
(I remember this happening on the ranch in Texas but it was Caracara and other
types of raptors.)

Richard Healy, Eric Hope, Lindsey McMahon, and I visited the Taylor County
Snowy Owl late this afternoon and evening. Thanks *much* to James Wheat for
lingering on stake-out until we arrived and to David Lang and others for
posting the address of the site where the bird was relocated today (and to
whoever ... David??? ... who sniffed out where it was hanging out today
(about a mile as the owl flies to the northwest).
The Snowy apparently sat on the same few fence posts just about ALL DAY,
before stretching it's wings, hacking up a pellet, roping a nice wash of
white out the back, and flying phantomlike to one of the tall utility poles
along Cave Road to begin hunting. We moved down the road and enjoyed the bird
sitting obliviously to our presence as a trio of Short-eared Owls came up
from the west side of Cave Road and floated over to the pasture on the east
side to hunt.
There must be a really good source of food in this area. Local resident, Mike
Dugeon (sp?), echoed what at least a couple of other landowners have told us
recently that the bird has been present since about mid-January, moving back
and forth between the two areas along Owl Creek Road and Cave Road. James
retrieved the pellet and is going to report on identity of any identifiable
contents . . .
Homeowners in the area continue to be very friendly and welcoming to birders.
