Returning home from the SomerSplash water park yesterday evening, we stopped
for supper in Mt. Vernon (on purpose). The martins have returned to the Renfro
Valley Music Center parking lot. As in 2013, the birds are roosting in the two
sycamore trees adjacent to Hwy 25. There are probably 2,000 birds using the
roost, which is about half as many as in 2013. At 8:30 pm there were only 50
birds in the air above the parking lot. At 10 minutes to 9:00 pm, the sky was
full of birds and by 10 minutes after 9:00 they had all swirled down into the
trees.
