I think most others also experienced the lull in migration that I witnessed on
the family farm. Did have a few highlights. Hope one last wave of late birds
will come this week.
On Saturday morning Mark Monroe came over in hopes of running into a
Connecticut. No luck on that, but he found an Olive-sided Flycatcher in the top
of one of the many dead ash trees on the farm (I guess I have to accept the
tiny bright side to the horrible infestation by the emerald ash borer). We left
the bird there but I returned a few hours later and got a few pics of it as it
was *still* hawking insects. A few photos on this eBird list:
https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S56459690. We also had a single Canada Warbler.
About 530 in the afternoon, my farm manager, Wallace, called to tell me there
was a white bird hanging around the cattle. I went out and a Cattle Egret was
busy picking flies off their legs. When it got tired of feeling threatened, it
would walk over to one of the calves that were lying nearby and pick flies off
their faces. I took a few pics and got a couple of videos:
