Michael Autin had his call correct on the phalarope. Looks from the overlook to
be a pretty juvenile like all of our fall Red-necked Phalaropes are; early
enough in the season that it appears no pale gray back feathers are coming in
yet. Hopefully it will hang around because today would *not* be the day to try
to walk out on the fossil beds. It's always an ominous sign when you get up and
well before sunrise the dog day cicadas are already singing and the windows are
fogged on the outside panes . . . .
