Aug. 5, 2018 - The martins have selected Riney B Park again as their summer
roost site. There were probably more martins there this evening than I have
seen before at a Lexington area roost. The birds were diving into the
triangular-shaped woodlot between the power line right-of-ways and into the
woodlot just to the west across the right-of-way from the triangle woodlot. If
you stand in the right-of-way between the two woodlots during that 30 minutes
between 8:30 and 9:00 pm, large groups of martins will fly low around and over
your head between the two woodlots. Coordinates for the triangle-shaped woodlot
are 37 54 10.0 and -84 34 26.0. The woodlot is a dense stand of the ornamental
callery pear trees all about 20-feet in height. A red-tailed hawk and an owl
were hanging around waiting for me to leave.
